Vehicle Simulator

Overview:

Client:

Our client was faced with a decision to either invest in an expensive upgrade to switch from one engine to another or to figure out a way to continue using their current platform. They reached out to us to collaborate with them on developing a new approach to their pipeline.

The Problem

The pipeline needed a way to convert LiDAR scan data into geometry that could be recognized by Unity and match up exactly with the proprietary simulation inputs to match the visuals.

Our Solution

We used CloudMax for sectioning out the LiDAR data, Unity for the visuals and C# conversions and 3DS Max for the modeling, unwrapping and material assignment. Combined you would have an accurate representation of the track, materials to work inside Unity and be on par with the visuals from the previous pipeline generation.

The Results

We succeeded in creating a pipeline that was efficiently able to ingest Gigabytes of LiDAR data, texture, align and customize the course to the client’s specifications. In the video you can see a driver driving up and down one of the completed tracks that they gathered locally for testing.

Lead Witch Studio Role

We handled the backend development, pipeline tools, level layout and design, and modeled custom assets for the data that did not fully translate from the initial conversion.
